The other point regarding 2 rail O "scale" is that it is 5ft broad gauge.

That is the truth. Trackwork and even rolling stock just do not look right in O 
"scale" (unless the modeler has adopted P:48).

However this whole discussion about S scale has one fallacy. We shouldn't be 
talking about "scale wheels". Maybe a term such as "near scale wheels" would be 
more accurate. I might get hounded off of the list for saying that. I know the 
whole bugaboo is availability and compatibility with what you already have, but 
as someone who is making the move to S scale for its appealing size and a scale 
that permits great fidelity in modeling, I intend to be all in, so to speak, 
for 
accuracy. I hope everyone goes with what makes them happy and that the market 
provides for those needs, but I know what it is going to take to make me happy.
