Billy, It's too bad that has happened, but it does happen in all types
of businesses. It does leave a 'bad taste in your mouth', less money in
the bank and less trust in our manufacturers. It would seem that your
bill to him wouldn't have been that large. I only met John at one
convention (Baltimore perhaps) and was impressed with his projects. I
would have certainly purchased is 0-6-0 switcher had he produced it in
the UP variation. Too often we have found guys with great visionary
plans don't have the practical grounding to make things work.
I did buy the wood side version and (contrary to Bill's impression)
found everything just right--excellent soldering and everything was
straight. I got the un-painted version, weathered the wooden sides and
put them in my version (ATSF lettering). It's been hauling ever since.
One could make an observation that we S people have been fortunate in
having several distinct types of gondolas: I have these on my layout--
the original AF which works well, several of the Regal/WC craftsman
versions (USRA), the AM version (I don't know much about it's heritage),
the S Scale America version, the Drake GS model, the Cryer Grey model
and the Pennsy Models. I no longer have the Rex version and never
really needed the various resin versions and long forgotten wooden
models. And maybe someday we'll have a sugar beat model too.
So gondolas have closely matched the varieties of boxcars, and perhaps
in a greater proportion.
Grateful in Texas

Where John is now I have no idea.... The website is still up but has
not been updated in over 3 years.

All I know is that he has not paid */B.T.S./* for the last laser work
we did for that project in 2008. Phone calls, emails, and certified
letters have all been ignored.
Buyer beware!
Take care
