That actually depends on how much travel your cushion gear needs. A cushion gear for the SHS cabooses needs only 10.5 scale inches of travel.
A longer box is no design challenge... just lengthen the front of the gear box and add a second 'post' for the coupler's shank inside the gear box ahead of the normal post. Simple.
