On this subject, here is part of a post I found amusing on the Proto Layouts
Yahoo group. The post title was "Reasons NOT to go to RPM meets":

"I bought a IM RI RTR car there too...Gasp!! Only because RI box car decals are
hard to find and the car doesn't need much changing. So, far I've replaced the
trucks, hand wheel, steps, couplers/coupler boxes, and added cut levers. I've
scrapped off the numbers and now need to decal on new numbers 167282, chalk
marks, reweigh/repack, add a route card and weather. Then and only then will it
be LOR "LayOut Ready"."

That modeler works in HO, and is fortunate to have actual lists of cars dropped
and pulled from the town he models, so he researches the car number and models
specific cars (by series, he certainly can't find photos of a specific number
car to follow). FWTW, "IM" is Intermountain.
