Jim, Tom and all:

Yes I did return to the Jackson household to cover Bob & Brian's layout with the blessing of RMC right after the St. Louis NASG convention. I was welcomed to stay in their home and Bob's wife was so great in stirring up great meals and a relaxing cocktail before that.

I spent an entire day and into the evening shooting views. If you've been there, you will do a bit of walking photo gear back and forth along the route many times over. On the next day I photographed a HO layout owned by a friend of theirs, again destined for RMC.

Long story short, RMC didn't seem to be doing much with either article. I finally stirred them up by attempting to pull the articles, as I discovered that MR would run them. I was then informed that the HO layout was 'on the press' and Jackson's layout was likely a year or more away. I proceeded to pull the feature and placed it with MR. After hearing from Brian, I inquired and found it will likely run early in 1213. I had hoped that Bob's health would have held much longer and that MR would have chosen to run it earlier, but it was not to be. All three of us worked very hard to show the layout at it's best...hopefully that part will be realized.

We had last met in Sacramento during the NMRA/NASG convention. Like many of us, he was having trouble with his feet/standing, but he still had a fair amount of giddy-up going on!

So I indeed will miss him, his kindness and dedication to our little piece of the modeling world.

. . . . . . . . It bothers me that one of our own, passed away a few days
ago but was barely noticed. What did his family receive, four or five
condolences out of a list of how many modelers? Surely he was better known
than that. . . . . . . .
I considered Bob a friend of mine. We comunicated a lot, saw each other at
conventions, fests &c, and we were both odd fish in that we were older
modellers of the modern era. I stopped and visited him & his layout on the
way back from one of St Louis events, I forget which one..

Texas Bob showed up as I was about to leave and started setting up to take pictures. I trust they're still in the can somewere and that we'll see them
some day.
