Hi All,

I finished doing some modifications to my ALCO/MLW S2 switcher to approximate a
CNR MLW S2 before 1956 when the 2nd renumbering occured. The first renumbering
was in 1950.

I added cab window shades, a single bell horn, steam style rerails and changed
the control for the top radiator shutters so that it was inside the hood. The
walkover which goes over the radiator exhaust was narrowed and put on new
brackets. Not hard modifications at all but it made the loco more accurate.

Someone on the list asked about the radiator intake shutters awhile back. I
did a lot of research in 3 books and found that the early S2's had narrow
vertical ones. Between 1943-44 for a short while the shutters were horizontal.
These were not too common although CPR had a pair. The final edition was the
wider vertical ones that are most common and which is on the model.

Pictures can be found in the Photos folder Canadian Alco Switchers. It will be
painted as CNR 7985 which is the photo in the background.

Once done, I will add pics.

cheers,

Andy Malette
