At first thought, creating a flatcar from scratch sounds like an easy project.
My experience with any project, whether modeling in S or repairing something in
the house, is that I fill the Guiness Book of Records for time taken on any
given project. Nothing is a simple as it looks. I do have some plans for a
flat car though, and maybe it would be an easy task.

...a flatcar?? Probably be a heck of a lot easier to simply scratchbuild them,
assembly line fashion, from styrene sheet/shapes, wire grabs and stripwood. No
need for all the milling, grinding, swapping out bolsters...etc. Probably look
better too.
