There's a couple of things to consider here:

SHS and AM were/are scale models adapted to the HiRail/Flyer world.

Lionel/Flyer is attempting to adapt to the scale world.

Notice I said adapt. Lionel has a business model aimed primarily at the model
train enthusiast, less so to the model railroad enthusiast. It's what works for
them. I'll admit to being a bit of both. It is a hobby, after all and I will
take it as serious or not so serious as I it suits me at the time.

But I'll still congratulate Lionel for attempting to attract the scale
modeller.

(When I got into S in 1985, I didn't want anything to do with Flyer in any way
shape or form. I picked up an interest in Flyer around 1990 and by 1998
wouldn't give you a nickle for any of the contemporary Flyer of the time.)

It's pretty obvious that some here will never buy a Lionel/Flyer product no
matter how it's constructed. But there are also those that will. I myself am
looking forward to the Lionel/Flyer SD70's as well as picking up my Y3 this
weekend.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy these things. MTH says they'll be coming out
with an SD70ACe, so we'll see what it looks like when it comes out. If MTH
truly intends to follow the SHS pattern of constuction, so much the better.

But, I don't see s scale falling off a cliff because Lionels making s trains.
