I now have my Vari-Pulse throttle up and running. This is quite a throttle, and
it takes some training to get used to, especially the fact that it take a while
to run out of current when I reduce or close the throttle. Reminds me a little
of the Miller diesels I once had.

I think of all the throttles and variations I have now employed, the old MRC
Cabtrollers are about the best, at least where my DC operation is concerned.
Response is instant and precise, not unlike the old NW-2 and Alco S-2 notchless
throttles that I used to have so much fun with on the KEOKUK JUNCTION.
Excellent for precision switching duty.

Next on the list would be the Troller TRH-200's (I now have two of them with
one in service) They work well, but I find the momentum feature a little
annoying and try to block the switch to avoid accidentally activating it. They
are good road freight throttles.

I received my RIX throttle back from Hawkins Rail Services last week. The
proprietor had one of his electronically inclined customers repair it for me.
At the same time, he put a decent potentiometer in it, and it provides nice
smooth control, and starts a train without putting the conductor's head under
the stove in the caboose. Great throttle for passenger service.

Today, for some reason, the turntable motor at Terminal District decided to
short out, so I've got something to occupy my time there.

Next on the agenda is a trip to Menard's to get some 4-conductor wire to run
feeders for the branch throttles at Terminal District and Mt. Zion. Bob, I may
have some tips on replacing that masonite control panel. If you're interested,
contact me offline. Right now, my typing ability is going from non-existing to
worse, so I think I'll go run a couple of passenger trains.
