Our own Roger Nulton did an excellent job with an American Models Pacific a few years back. It received some kind of award (sorry Roger I'm not sure which award) at a past NMRA/NASG convention in San Jose. I think there have been a couple of others, maybe using Fred's updating kit. Our own local SP guy, Don Hand did a nice oil tender conversation, so that's a good start. I don't think he ever made any photos of it though.

If you can find some old NASG Dispatches, they will have photos.

Scott,
I'm assuming your asking about the plastic 21085 Pacific. I remember seeing one from an estate that was converted way back when, I'm guessing with Nixon drivers. The plastic boiler appears slightly oversized, though. I've also seen a couple of converted Flyer Pennsy K5's, which is much better proportioned. The last one I saw used an American Models drive. A better starting point would be the American Models Pacific. It's a decent representation of a USRA heavy Pacific, available with scale wheels, the drive is excellent and the boiler has very little detail cast in or applied. It's a "blank slate" and dresses up quite nicely. My only complaint with the AM pacific is the firebox is too wide for the boiler. It would take some serious machining of the firebox to reduce the width. I left mine alone. As I said, it dresses up nicely and I just learned to ignore the width. Attached are a couple of photos of my AM rework. I'm sure others have done more intensive reworks.

Has anyone tried to convert the AF Pacific Steam Locomotive to a scale model. I don't own it to compare it with various Pacific's that MR has published schematics of over the years, but was wondering if a project along these lines was doable.
