boB sent me a couple pair of Protomax to try out. I do like them and ya can't
beat the price, its just that I had stocked up on Kadee 802/808's (the "8's
being the brown ones)and have more than enough for a lot more rolling stock
than I currently own.
As for the finicky assembly, I usually do several pair at once and this
rhythm helps make the whole process easier. I also add a short length of brass
rod and sometimes styrene rod inside the draft gear spring as Kadee had
recommended. I end up with minimal spring travel and I do mean minimal. I've
been "sealing the lids" on the box by a quick touch of a hot soldering gun to
the rear of the box across the lid and the top of the box.
