Dave, I don't know if you remember my good departed friend Ken Stanley whose layout I shot for MR about 10 years ago and reprinted in the latest MR calendar. For that layout he backdated to link & pin couplers (no discussions about he 808's vs the #5's with him) and also added all horse drawn vehicles--although a couple of horse drawn wagons are now made, at the time it was pretty much a Chevron/Polaris horse drawn wagon (sold as a collector piece at gas stations)--he did wonders with it.

I have a couple of them on my layout as some would have still been around following WWII.
