Ed,  How does the Zimo know if the wheels are on a dirt spot?

My favorite decoder in the ZIMO lineup has wires for attaching keep-alive batteries which are a great assist to put it mildly. Another feature of the ZIMO decoders is something called "Smart Stop" which, in a nutshell, means the decoder will not stop the loco on a dirt spot. Thus, it always starts up without the need to thump the table.

Not trying to start a control technology debate here, but merely trying to point Matt in a direction that he might find pleasing. Worth exploring at any rate.
