A friend is currently at York and got me printed copies of both catalogs.
Apparently MTH was giving them out with some hesitation.

Try and convince a serious modeler to switch to S when both catalogs are
filled with toy operating accessories. No matter with the trains are it is
not going to make the "sell" easier.

I am giving Lionel the win by a nose for promoting "scale S" by clearly
dividing traditional American Flyer and their new scale line. But their just
out modern hopper has ALL very imagineered paint schemes on them leaving the
modern modeler to paint a very brand new car.

They are both falling very short on what I see as accommodating the scale
modeler. Scale wheels as a separate purchase or request which is really
annoying. If you buy the MTH scale wheels and couplers it is another $20.00
making a new car purchase $80.00 list. That is about twice the SHS price. I
will be MUCH choosier as to what I buy at that price.
