One practical consideration: dry transfers are a thing of the past. If you are 
starting now, I'd advise learning to use water slide decals, that is, the 
normal decals made for modelers. In my opinion, MicroScale makes the best, but 
they are not producing S Scale sheets any more. Some HO or O sets can be used 
in S. It is an easy process to get custom decals made.
