Hi,
The discussion on K-Line cars is very interesting but leaves more
questions than answers. Why is 3/16 tooling from K-Line not S gauge?
Interestingly enough, S-Gaugain in their May/June 2003 issue details the
source of the tank car that AF based their car on. It appears that the
AF tank car was a bit of a mistake and came out 12% oversize for S
scale. So comparing to AF is not much good here. I have the K-Line Penn
Salt car which is very colorful and has sprung trucks which I did not
get on any of my Lionel cars at twice the price. I, for one, am happy to
see more manufacturers get on the S gauge train. It is nice to have
train cars that the grandkids can play with. Hopefully the success of
this will cause K-Line and others to bring out more product to round out
an entry level train set much needed in S and that the pressure of
entry-level competition will cause Lionel to lower prices to compete or
start producing train cars which are worth what they are charging.
