Well, if the original gets corrupted by the backend, you can use one of
the backups or manually type in the master key.

No, there is no automation for this at all. I've postponed writing this
until someone actually needs it.


However, the procedure is simple. To use a .bak file, you just rename
them using your storage providers native interface (e.g. the AWS
Management console in case of S3). To use the external master key, I
would need to write a little script.
