Even if you select an encoding method such as "ISO-8859-1" or "ASCII" you
get the extra bytes mentioned. This does not happen in other XSL translator
implementations... ?? What am I doing wrong?

Also, is there any way to output £ to the output stream? Instead I'm
using £ which is being interpreted as the ascii code for the pound
sign, and then being UTF8 encoded...
