Hi,
as a solution around the problem: Why don't you shut down the VMWare image, make a copy, start the VMWare image again, run an in place upgrade and then restart the notebook again? That way you have a backup of the old VMWare version with the worksheets and after the upgrade a hopefully fully working upgraded Sage with the worksheets.
