I happened to find a post of yours on the 'net at

in which you mentioned that you might try to build gnutls on AIX at some
point.
If you have access to an AIX system, and have an interest in debugging
this problem, please let me know.
Thanks,

Hi Alan,
I do personally own an old 32-bit AIX machine (IBM RS/6000 7025 - F50), but it
is not in use at the minute. I don't have a huge interest in running Sage on
IBM's AIX myself - my main reason for considering a port was the fact that often
testing source code on different platforms (especially with different
compilers), shows up bugs.
Unfortunately, writing portable code does not seem high on the list of
priorities of many developers, so I believe porting Sage to AIX would be quite a
task.
I was granted access by metamodul.com for an AIX 6.1 box, which they rebuilt. I
got an email asking if I wanted an account still, to which I replied yes, but
that was the last I heard. Following your post, I have dropped them an email again.
I know gnutls presented a problem when building on HP-UX, which I documented.
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7511
it was also a problem on OpenSolaris
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7387
though that has now been fixed.
I believe the only way a port could take place is if IBM gave Sage developers
access to an AIX machine, and even then, I am not sure if there would be the
interest. I've had a huge struggle getting people to test code on Solaris, and
there was an official plan to support Solaris - Sun provided hardware for this.
However, with some AIX machines having clock rates of 5 GHz, I believe Sage
could work well on AIX.
Assuming I get my account back on the AIX machine, I will try to help you debug
this.
I've copied your email to [email protected], where the Sage developers
hang out. There might be some other interest. I know there has been some
previous interest in an AIX port, but I don't know if that was from you. It
really needs a few people interested to make the port possible.
