If you're not compiling a sage with a very recent libm4rie, 1GB+0.5GB
will *not* be enough.

Let me remind you what Leif wrote earlier: M4RIE got upgraded in Sage
5.10.beta1.

Unfortunately the new spkg at
http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/14336 also needs patching the
Sage library, so (presumably) cannot be installed by simply replacing
the old one (i.e., the Sage library afterwards wouldn't build).

The version 5.10.rc0 isn't that far from stable. It's probably less trouble to get it running than trying to shoehorn 5.9 into a small computer...
