I had my tech dept isolate my room from the rest of the school so I don't see any other dhcp servers. They created a different logical subnet on the school network. I have IPs like 10.5.xxx.xxx while every other room has 10.10.xxx.xxx. I have setup SAGE servers and even a DHCP server for MPI in there with noone having a problem. We can even use ssh and ftp in class. My students can even ssh in and access our ftp server from home to finish their projects.
