Ok, I am might be totally wrong here. In the end the hope is that the code
can either be ported to Sage or fixed. Either way, I just want to avoid
adding dependencies to crappy code where I will end up holding the short
stick on the platforms I am porting to.

Yeah, let's hope someone does review this patch quickly then.
