 I guess the other thing I should make perfectly clear is that the changes
 I made to the timeseries and the real_roots files were *only* to get
 {{{sage -br}}} to work so that I could concentrate on the doctests in the
 vector code.  If the authors don't beat me to it, I plan to go through
 each of those changes and make them optimally access the numpy array
 (which should be just about as fast as the previous C double array access
 to the GSL vector).  That's why the patch is "needs work"--it's a work-in-
 progress that I wanted to post to trac to (a) back up and (b) expose to a
 wider audience.

 That said, I really appreciate your comments.  I'll pay particular
 attention to optimizing these (if someone else doesn't beat me to it).
