You'd still get a EPIPE if the process wasn't orphaned. Also, the problem
is that GAP is **not** segfaulting in some circumstances when it is
orphaned. If it would segfault you wouldn't get an orphan.
The underlying problem is that the expect interfaces don't always clean up
processes before quitting Sage, hence leading to orphaned processes to
start with. Only after the process is orphaned you get EIO's.
