It is doable in that we do it in sage on gentoo. Iml needs patching too
work with anything else than atlas (configuration not functionality) .
Linbox numpy scipy need careful handling sage itself needs patching in
setup.py as well. I know you are looking at lmnd Volker I guess that will
give you an idea of what we do. Of course the pkgconfig and alternatives
thing could be way simplified in vanilla sage.
