Simon: the patches should apply to 5.7.beta4, and probably only to this
version. The script also may only work on this version (or any later
version, I hope). This patch is very sensitive to changes, so it needs to
be rebased frequently. I'm sorry I haven't kept track of the dependencies
-- I just keep rebasing to the latest beta.
