 Great work, Jason! There's still alot of work to do to make the excluded
 regions smooth, but we can address that in another patch. I can definitely
 work on this.

 About _clean_point_list(): We don't _have_ to deallocate unused vertices.
 I took a look at some parametric plots, and in most cases the number of
 vertices deleted in _clean_point_list() was under 100. The overhead for a
 list mapping vertex indices to their (u, v) coordinates would be much
 greater than the memory saved by _clean_point_list(). Does that sound
 reasonable to you? Of course, there may be other reasons for maintaining
 such a list or ensuring that all the vertices in the IFS are used...
