I think this is actually an important issue: pickling is really valuable,
especially because of the ever increasing importance on parallel
processing, which tends to require interprocess communication. I don't
think what we need to do is complicated or a lot of work. It's just that
people need to get some experience and examples in what to do.
I'd happily write a patch, on this ticket, but the git branch stuff is
beyond me.
