 I saw your comment only after the above Git operation; I may just have
 commited the sin of rewriting history and/or have messed things up for
 you.  I'm still more used to Mercurial, which is why rebasing sounded like
 the obvious thing to do.  Besides, it turned out to remove some duplicate
 commits which were in the previous version of the branch (I noticed this
 before).
