for the unique representations, there seems to be a memory leak. Using the
failing example from #14912:
Do the usual: look up the objects using `[a for a in gc.get_objects() if
type(a) is ...]` and use `objgraph` or `gc.get_referrers` to track who's
keeping it alive. Should be pretty quick.
