What's the status here? We have a bunch of other tickets developing from
this one here, but we shouldn't forget about this here. Could I convince
you to keep the backwards compatible fallback with the generator
conversion for number field elements? Do you have any doubts about the
rest of the code? Should I push a forced update to my branch, dropping
that `via_nf` stuff and instead adding some comments about the fact that
finding roots using maxima is preliminary until #17516 gets addressed?
Anything else you need to give this your approval?
