But neither is the fallback really bad. I'd say keep that for now and aim
for a proper solution to all of this using Galois theory (getting a book
on that now). If you decide to drop that, please get review from someone
else, since I don't feel comfortable sanctioning a deliverate breach of
backwards compatibility just for the sake of elegance.
