 Unless `a*d - b*c == 0`, then this is an invertible matrix, and this is a
 "rare" event for generic `a,b,c,d`. So I would say this is a safe test, or
 perhaps we can add an assumption that `a*d - b*c != 0`? Also could you
 tell me what ticket you are referring to or give some more details?
