According to

post on sage-support], my guess was a bit wrong.
Apple's GAS was removed / LLVM's assembler made the default in (still
presumably) Xcode 7.'''3''', not 7.0 or 7.1 (but perhaps already 7.2,
which in contrast to 7.3 is available for MacOS X 10.10).
