I'm changing this to a blocker for 4.3.1, as William is keen that Sage
builds on Solaris asap, and this is the one remaining issue which prevents
a clean build. It's also code written by Sage developers.
I've looked at this and can't sort it out. Perhaps a fresh pair of eyes
can.
