 I tried building a new Python 2.6.4 spkg (not for general distribution,
 just for working on this ticket).  In doing so, I got rid of all of the
 patches except for those to two files: pickle.py and cPickle.c.  It looks
 like a lot of the other issues have been fixed, but I'm not sure.  In any
 case, I still get the same doctest failures, and I don't see how the two
 remaining patches could be causing this.
