Hi John,
I rebased the patch relative to sage-4.3.1.alpha1.
Whoever is refereeing the patch: Apply 7580_fixes_and_extensions.patch,
disregard the other patch, and then I hope it'll work. Please take into
account the above discussion, which provides not only examples but
critical questions, e.g. concerning coercion.
For me, the doc tests of the modified files pass on sage-math.
