In addition to my earlier post, I seems there is a problem with the first
patch (the one collecting the three patches from #383 for convenience),
which I am sorry for. Nonetheless, applying the three patches straight
from that ticket and adding the second patch above yields the desired
state, apart from the one remaining doctest.
