I don't have time to extensively test right now, so I tried both reverting
the patch that Burcin gave above and reintroducing remove_dylib at the
same time. That fixed the problems.
So you're definitely on the right track, but I'll leave it to you to
figure out what exactly needs to be changed for a new spkg :-)
