It was worth a try as that still could have been a hidden Jmol.jar file
not found error. This is different than the problem I addressed. Sorry.
I would guess it is a problem with the "sphere" command. Does it work
with a simple plot3d command? I've tested the 1.1 version on MacOS and
Ubuntu and it seems to work for me.

(#9238) but it did not change anything. The verbose output above indicates
that Jmol.jar is never opened, so it is not particularly surprising that
an updated Jmol spkg has no effect.
