I see in the spkg/standard/deps file that lcalc isn't a prequisite for the
Sage library; should it be? The above problem went away after I installed
the spkg with "sage -i".

Till this patch, lcalc was not require to build sage library. The code
William wrote used pexpect and the command line version of lcalc. Now
libLfunction.so is required to compile. I did not know that one has to
change spkg/standard/deps also. Can you change it so that the spkg becomes
a prerequisite for the sage library
