 I took a tarball for Sage 4.5.2.alpha0, dropped in the new singular spkg
 (singular-3-1-1-4.spkg), and ran "make".  I'll try again now with an
 already built version of Sage, running "sage -i singular-3-1-1-4.spkg" and
 then installing the 3-1-1-4 patch -- I hadn't done that before.
