Comment(by jhpalmieri):

 Oh, the patch doesn't apply cleanly to Sage 4.5.2.alpha0:
 {{{
 applying /home/palmieri/singular-3-1-1-4.patch
 patching file sage/libs/singular/option.pyx
 Hunk #1 succeeded at 108 with fuzz 1 (offset 14 lines).
 Hunk #2 FAILED at 313
 Hunk #3 FAILED at 349
 2 out of 3 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file
 sage/libs/singular/option.pyx.rej
 patching file sage/libs/singular/singular-cdefs.pxi
 Hunk #9 succeeded at 790 with fuzz 1 (offset -10 lines).
 patching file sage/libs/singular/singular.pyx
 Hunk #1 succeeded at 30 with fuzz 1 (offset 0 lines).
 }}}
 Sage does start after this, though. There are a few doctest failures, but
 they look like random unrelated ones.

 Note that #1396 may be backed out of Sage 4.5.2, so you might want to
 coordinate with that patch rather than just rebasing against some version
 of 4.5.2. Also, please test on t2.math or another solaris box: the patch
 at #1396 caused a segfault on t2.math but not on any other platform...
