I have a new spkg available at
[http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/palmieri/SPKG/chomp-20100213.p2.spkg].
It builds on hawk, and since the only changes are SunOS-specific, it
should still wherever it built before, but I haven't tested it yet. I'll
try to test on various skynet machines soon. I'm also attaching a patch
showing the changes; this is for reference only, don't apply it anywhere.
