This is great -- on my machine adding your [attachment:
trac_1956_faster_MPowerSeries_mul.patch] and
`trac_10480_fast_PowerSeries_poly_multiplication2.patch` from #10480 drops
the total time for doctests in
`sage.rings.multi_power_series_ring_element` from 3.5 seconds to 2.8
seconds.
After reading the discussion at #10480, it looks like speeding up the
multiplication is a somewhat subtle problem, so I propose opening a
separate ticket for this issue. Then we can look into the relative
advantages of `do_mul_trunc_generic` and the Karatsuba algorithm, and
patch `MPowerSeries._mul_` to take advantage of the optimal one. I'll do
this unless you think #10480 already includes this issue.
