Okay, I've made it so that #9232 only modifies base.pyx ''and'' fixes the
lighting. So [attachment:trac_9232_plot3d_base_pyx.patch] would need to
remove that piece, which is fine, and in any case the name would be wrong.
The `spt` business only is necessary with the new Jmol, and #9232 isn't
about that.
So from now on this ticket can feel free to focus only on Jmol update, and
whatever is needed to make it succeed. I'm really impressed by the amount
of work you've put in on this, and I think it will soon bear good fruit,
since it will be in the new notebook too.
