More on the Safari problem. It appears to be a memory problem that does
not just depend on the number of applet. It depends on the memory usage
of the applets. My patch only counts applets, so the workaround is not
always successful. Need a way to judge memory usage more closely at least
to make Safari work.
Also note that older FF (<3.5) on MacOS seem to work OK. It may be the 64
bit version of the browser or the JVM that is a problem. Things look the
worst on my newest machine.
