 Sorry, where's my head? For field size 64, only one mark per byte is used,
 and it is [xxxxxx00][xxxxxx00].

 Meataxe packs as many field elements into a single byte as possible.
 Hence, if you work over GF(5) then a triple of field elements will be
 packed into one byte. That is since 5^3^ is smaller than 256, but 5^4^ is
 bigger.

 So, really quite simplistic. No bit slicing or anything fancy.
