P.S.: You can also try

$ ./sage -sh -c "pkg-config --libs libpng"
}}}
on iras, which should either raise an error, or give the wrong library,
unless you fix the `.pc` file (and/or unset `PKG_CONFIG_PATH` in the
"global" environment).
